I think that "acceptable" in the quote doesn't make sense because "acceptable" means "being allowed to do something".
Therefore, I guess that the reporter mistook "possible" for "acceptable".

Could you inform me if my opinion is right or wrong?

acceptable means, able to be accepted, satisfactory, or adequate., so it is acceptable in the sentence.
