I decided to try harder, although i didn't know what that meant. I read the book more carefully, but another 77. One more test before the final exam, i redoubled my efforts and, for the first time, learned the meaning of the word "thorough". But my effort did no good and everything _____ as before.
A. stayed B. went

Which one is more suitable? Why???

I would say B. went.

I think we are talking about how the test or overall situation progressed or "went" the second time. For example, "how did the test go?"

Given tests and test scores are new for each occasion (even if they are the same figure on two occasions), we can't really say that the score stayed the same. There are two different scores for two different tests, even if value is identical in each case.

That's my take on it, anyway.
