Chandler: Alright, so I'm back in high school, I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria, and I realize I am totally naked.
All: Oh, yeah. Had that dream.
Chandler: Then I look down, and I realize there's a phone... there.
Joey: Instead of...?
Chandler: That's right. |

Zeppy, there is filtering software used on this site that is quite sensitive. It automatically substitutes "*beep*" for any word that is anticipated to be the least sensitive. For example, even 'Charles D i c k e n s', a very famous author, has his last name changed to *beep* on this site because the first four letters form a vulgar word. It can be annoying, but it is understandable. People of all ages and cultures use this site.
Sometimes on the internet (but nowhere else), asterisks ("*") are used to enclose a word or phrase to stress it. It is similar to using italics or bold type.
'Beep' (or sometimes 'bleep') is used to alert the reader that a word or phrase was eliminated for reasons of taste. It is the written equivalent of the electronic sound that is used when a word is 'bleeped' on a soundtrack. |
