Hello, teachers.
Does "get on a line/queue" mean "stand at the end of a line/queue"?
Is the following sentence acceptable?
"There were many people waiting at the cash register. I had to get on the line/queue."
How about "I had to get on the end of the line/queue." ?

It should be "There were many people waiting at the cash register. I had to get in the line/queue."
or
"I had to get to the end of the line/queue." ?

I agree. Or, "I had to get in line," as we Americans would say, "I had to get in the queue," as the Brits would say.

In New York, they say "stand on line" instead of "stand in line." I've even heard "wait on line." "I like going to the theater, but I hate waiting on line for tickets." The rest of us would say "but I hate waiting in line for tickets."
