" The patient was subjected to daylight for the first time since the operation."

In my opinion, "was" has to be changed into " had been".
As I know, "since" as a preposition can be used with present, perfect or past perfect tense.

What's your opinion?

Hello sejpdw I don't see anything wrong with the sentence. There are no reasons why the teses could not be changed, but this would slightly change the implications of the sentence.

The patient was subjected to daylight for the first time since the operation." = An event that happened in the past, finished and up to date without consequences.

" Today the patient is subjected to daylight for the first time since the operation." = An event that will take place today with "Today" going in initial position since the end position is already occupied

"The patient had been subjected to daylight for the first time since the operation, with the result that his condition immediately improved." = Use of the perfect tense implies that an action has relevant results. This goes for both the past perfect and the present perfect.
" The patient has been subjected to daylight for the first time since the operation and is responding very well."

Does that help Wink
