Hello.
Could you please tell me the meaning of this line? I met it when I was reading a book. The scene was as follows. A mother and her son was talking. The mother did'nt like telemarketers. She said to her son. "You ever take a job like that, I'm writing you out of my will" The son glanced around their house, and said."There goes the trust fund"
They are not rich. I gained an impression that the son was sarcastic.

You are right. If the family is not rich than he is definitely being sarcastic.

Was your question specifically about "There goes the trust fund"?

A trust fund is money that parents have saved to give to their children, usually when they reach a certain age, like 18 or 21.

In this case when he says, "There goes..." he means "I will no longer get my trust fund" or "My trust fund is gone."

If he is not rich, like you said, then there probably wasn't even a trust fund so bring written out of the will by his mother changes nothng for him.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your replay. Your explanation is illuminating, so I could grasp the situation well. I'm very grateful to you.
