Hello,
I know that there are some differences between "even if" and "even though".
And I wonder if "even though" can replace "even if" in the following sentence. Why?
We tend to think of octopuses as something to eat -- even if it's a bit chewy.
Looking forward to my question being answered.
Thank a million. |

Even if means - despite the possibility, or fact that...
Even though means despite the fact that...
So, you use, even though, when you are sure of the facts. For example, They decided to drive to Berlin, even though it was twice as far.
In your sentence, it is generally agreed that octopus is a bit chewy, so you can use even though.
For all practical purposes they are interchangeable. |
