I saw #1 in some book. I think that 'there is' is not necessary in #1.
If I'm wrong, can you tell me what's the difference between #1 and #2?

By adding "there is", you make the statement stronger in context. Grammatically it may not be necessary, but it changes the feel of the sentence. For example:
He is the best swimmer.
He is the best swimmer in the world.
He is the best swimmer in the whole wide world.
So you see, as you add modifiers, you add emphasis to your statement. |
