Hi,

I'd like to confirm the usage of the following 2 sentences.

1. I prefer essays over poems.
Is it better to write "I prefer essays to poems."?
Or, are they both the same?

2. I hope it's an out of fabrication.
Is it better to write " I hope it isn't out of fabrication."?
Which is the natural way English speakers will express?

Thanks in advance.

Leslie

The two sentences in number 1 both sound fine to me.

I don't understand number 2.

Thank you first, Lorikeet. Sentence 2 is from an English oral practice listening. The native speaker read the sentence as what I transcribed.(Maybe I heard it wrong. So, I guessed another sentence. I surmised that it meant 'I hope it's purely hearsy or rumor.' What would you say when you want to express the same idea by using 'out of fabrication'? Or, if you don't have any expression like that, what is the natural way to say it?
