Hello,

I want to know the difference between relation and relationship. How are these different?

1. What is the relation between the speaker and listener?

2. What is the relationship between the speaker and listener?

Which sentence is better, more correct, and more natural?

Thank you so much for your help.

Both are correct depending on what you are asking.

Relationship is the state of a connection between two or more things/persons.
Relation is the aspect or the way those things are connected.
For example:
A: Do you have a relationship with that girl?
B: Yes, we have a good relationship. We have dinner together often.
A: What is your relation to her?
B: I am her father.

So for your two questions, the answers could be:
1. What is the relation between the speaker and listener?
The speaker is a professor and the listener is his student.

2. What is the relationship between the speaker and listener?
The relationship is strained because the student listener is a weak student and doesn't like the speaking professor.
