Hello, teachers.
I have a question about the word "general" in the following passage.
And in that day they shall roar against thee like the roaring of the sea, and if one look unto the land behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof, said Mr Noot, and shut the book, with a glance of general fulmination through his great round spectacles.
(The Nebuly Coat)
I understand what "fulmination" means, but what does "general" mean here? My geuss is that Mr. Noot looked at his audience in general with a look of fulmination, but I am not sure if I am right. I appreciate your help very much!! |
