Great and grand originally meant large, but when we talk about great Americans, great athletes, great musicians, great stories, we mean they are really good.
Great is so overused that you would be well advised to use anything but great when you mean very good. Try excellent athletes, wonderful musicians, outstanding stories, anything but great.
But great still means large, as in a great number of Americans, or a great deal of corn. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
