The following is the lyrics of Fields of Gold sung by Sting.
I don't know the meaning or use of 'For' in 'For to gaze awhil'.
Please help me.
____________________________________________________

You`ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You`ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold

So she took her love
For to gaze a while
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

This is an example of a non-standard usage of prepositions. It is common to use double prepositions in some dialects, but it is not accepted as "proper English."
