Dear teachers,
Can you tell me the differences between "across" & "across from"? .
Could you please analyse the following sentence for me?
Today we can either fly to Hainan Island or take a ship ___ the sea.
A. across B. across from
Thank you! |

Across is what you need for your sentence. It expresses movement over a place or region. Across also has the meaning of on or towards the other side of something.
Across from means opposite.
e.g.He lives across (the street) from Walmart. |

But the answer is "across from".If we consider "across" as an adverb, and from is a preposition,"across from" is not the set phrase, can we choose "across from"?
Thankl you! |
