This band is *vaguely reminiscent* of the Beatles...=slightly similiar to?

This band has touched a nerve with a lot of people.=touched the heart?

Would anyone use *cut down in* in a sentence?

Thank you so much!!!

1. When something is reminiscent of something else, it reminds one of the something else. A band that is reminiscent of the Beatles makes us think of the Beatles. If it is only vaguely reminiscent of the Beatles, it only slightly reminds us of the Beatles.

2. When something touches a nerve, it usually means that it is somehow irritating. If the band was described as touching, then we might think it touched the heart. "That song was very touching, don't you think?"

3. Not sure what you mean--do you have some context? For example, if someone is cut down in his prime, that means he died young, while in the prime of life. If many trees are cut down in the forest, someone has done a lot of logging. If I cut down on sweets, I quit eating so many sweets, but I don't quit them completely.

Hope this helps.
