Grey and dark?
2.
That is to say, there is nothing subtle about Walt's bigotry, yet his misanthropy knows no bounds, and Eastwood does a remarkable job of finding the humor in Walt's equal *opportunity racism.*
What is that?
3.
*hard-going*
Sorry I forgot the context!
Thank you,teachers. |

1. "Grizzled" means having gray hair (French for gray is gris). Anyone with gray hair is older, maybe a little gruff and set in his ways -- like me.
2. The phrase comes from "equal opportunity employer," someone who will give a job to anyone, regardless of race, color, or creed (belief). Here, it is used to mean that Eastwood will be prejudiced against anyone -- or more likely, anyone who is not a white man like himself.
3. Sorry, haven't heard of hard-going. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

hard going is usually used to mean that the situation is difficult to overcome.
it can have a literal meaning.
' the terrible weather made the journey to Seoul hard going'
or a more idimatic meaning
' the meeting today about the financial problems was really hard going'
' Jan is finding his life hard going since he broke up with Sue.' |
