Dear teachers,
Do you see any difference in the sentences below:
1. Produce of spain
2. Product of spain
Produce in sentence (1) is used as a noun meaning farm products like fresh vegetables and fruits.
I've noted sentence (1) on a wine label. I was thinking as that wine was made from the produce of spain doesn't it should be a product of spain?
Can you please elaborate a little bit on the proper usage of Produce as a noun?
Thank you for your help,
Regards,
Sabrina |

Produce can be used as a noun for an agricole product.
A product is something that has been elaborated, a produce is something that has been produced naturally

Nicewitch, thank you so much for your reply.
As product is something that has been elaborated, then how come wine be a produce rather than a product? Do the wine bottle label indicates the grape produce from Spain which was used to make the wine?
Thank you for your help,

A product is something manufactured, or refined for sale, or a substance produced during a natural, chemical, or manufacturing process.
Produce is generally applied to things that have been grown, or produced.
So, although grapes are produce, wine is the product of a natural chemical process, which we have exploited.
The label should say "Product of Spain". |
