Hello,

Can you explain the difference between "rock", "stone" and "pebble"? I understand that a "pebble" is the smallest. I'm not sure about "rock" and "stone".

Thank you.

Nawee

Hi, again!

Here are some definitions:

Pebble: a small, rounded stone. Pebbles are smooth, because they are worn down by water or erosion.

Stone: a general term for the hard substance formed of earthand mineral. Stone is what rocks are made of. Stone can be any shape or size, but rocks are considered to be larger.

Stone can also be used to describe a piece of rock that is used for a specific purpose. Examples are: paving stone or building stone. As an adjective: a stone fireplace or a stone fence.

Rock: a large mass of stone, usually with rough or jagged edges. Rocks form hills, cliffs, or peaks.

Does this help?
