My history teacher told us that the difference is that the Western people want to adopt the enviornment to their needs, and the Asians to adopt according to the enviornment. Example: If it's too hot, an Asian person will try to get used to it. A western will build air-conditioners. If it's too cold, again, the Asian will try to get used to it, a Western will build heating system so that it won't be too cold. What do you think about it? I think it's true. Also, I noticed that Asians adopt to a new culture (when they come to another country) much quicker than Westerns.

Oh yes, not going to say about heaters or cool mates, I don't think Americans are happy to eat rice, even though they live in Asian countries for years.

basically not different, the difference results from our habits and customs, for example, food, language, and social value. Therefore, we think we are different, but, actually we all are images of GOD,that is,we are "one", united one.
we are GOD's children.

Just because we are different, I would prefer to imagine there is no heaven above the sky, nor hell below the earth's ground.

Easy to refute:
Rice terraces; the Three Gorges Dam; concrete river beds in Japan.
Asian cultures also shape their environment when they can afford the resources to do so.

Again easy to refute with a single word:
Chinatown
for further elaboration... Little Tokyo, Korea Town, Thai Town, etc. (see a map of Los Angeles). You don't see any Americans in Osaka's America-mura.

Consider this alternative theory:
It has less to do with the cultural background of the individual who must adapt to the new culture than it does with how welcoming, open, accepting, and friendly the host culture is.

Hee hee, you'll notice that a lot of Taiwanese people don't like to go out in the sun because they're afraid of their skin getting darker, while most westerners don't care. I don't know....it's probably just a cultural thing.

What is the difference between Asian culture and Western culture?

Hello everyone! I think that Asian culture ,especially Buddhism, pursue the dignity of life. This is very important for the latest world.

Actually, I do not know about western culture concletely, so I cannot compare. However, I believe that we, people around the world , can learn many important things from western culture . I will try to study about western culture!
In the 21st century, we should find good point of each culture and respect each culture. Very Happy

I just noticed this...I think it can be true about most Americans, yes, but I was in Taiwan for only two months, and I liked rice. Maybe I'm just weird though... Confused
