Is the expression "say of the kind"below acceptable?
Young Dr. Johnson: I attended Mrs. Hamilton today,
father. But I can't see that anything is the matter
with her.
Old Dr. Johnson: But, my boy, I hope you didn't say
of the kind to her!
Young Dr. Johnson: No, father.
Old Dr. Johnson: Good! You know, a healthy patient
lasts a long time! _________________ Hiromichi |

It isn't quite right the way you have written it.
"I hope you didn't say anything of the kind to her." is the correct way to say this. |

p ugachevV:
Thank you. The sentence is a quote from a certain mail magazine for English learners issued by Japanese people. _________________ Hiromichi |

Hi Hiromichi,
Sometimes the person who sets the type for the magazine can make an error, especially if he doesn't speak the language in which he is working.
Or else the author missed it. |
