I saw a sentence in an exercise book as follows.

I was grateful when I was told where to get off the bus at tha theatre.

I think this is a ridiculous sentence. Since the specific spot "the theatre" has been pointed out, why does the author use "where to get off the bus".

I cannot understand the sentence. What do you think?

Thanks

It's convoluted at best; absurd at worst.

The simplest way to make it sensible is to say:

I was grateful when I was told where to get off the bus for the theater.

Now it sounds like I wanted to go to the theater, and needed to ask what stop to get off for that destination.
