Please help check out the answer.
Jack _____ out the ring he _____ half a year ago and proposed to Jennie.
(A) took�bought (B) had taken�had bought
(C) took�had bought (D) was taking out� had bought
The answer is (C), but how about (A)?

I think ALL of them work. It depends on what you are trying to convey.
In answer to your specific question:- A. would also be quite acceptable. |

The best (most grammatically correct) answer is C: Jack took out the ring (simple past tense) that he had bought (past perfect) half a year ago. Since buying the ring occurred farther in the past than when he took it out, it is correct to put that in the pluperfect. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
