Difference between below, beneath and under?

Dear teacher:

I have a question from toeic test.

Debters are expected to remain _________ heavy economic pressure unless the interest rate are lowered.
A) below B) from C) beneath D) under

The answer is D.

But I don't know what different from below, beneath and under.
Could tell me the difference?

In many usages below, beneath and under are synonyms.

There are small differences of usage where they could not be used in the same place. This is one of them.

In your example 'under' has a secondary definition that means "feeling the effects of".

Joe is under a lot of stress at work.
Joe is feeling the effects of a lot of stress at work.

In this case "under" does NOT mean physically under another object.
