a film plot: On the one side there is Sue, on the other side there is a man
called Tom


Is `side�a suitable word to describe different aspects etc of sth (eg a
film)?

Or must it be: On the one hand there is Sue.....

Side implies that there is some competition between them. If there is, then you can use side.
