Dear teacers,
Can you help me with the following exercise:
The assistants have very strict orders. They are not _ to have long hair. A. made B. allowed C. let D.permitted
The answer given is "B", but I think "D" is better. What's your opinion?

Permitted or allowed... they are pretty much synonymous, so either is perfectly correct.
