Someone returned from a round-the-world trip 5 months ago:


A: I have been back home for 5 months.

B: Where have you been before? / had you been before/ were you?

Which tense would B use? Which one is impossible?

Please comment.

Of your choices, "Where were you?" is the best.
A native speaker night also ask , "Where did you go?"
