The memories are stored /saved in this part of our brain.

I feel only `stored�is acceptable. Am I right?

Stored is correct and so, actually, is saved, because saved means to store up for future use, to keep safe, and specifically in computing, it means, to keep data by moving a copy to a storage location. So, I think that, given that the brain is a computer-like entity, it is quite appropriate.
