Dear teachers,

If someone said his/her name is:

AAAAA-BBBBB CCCCC

which part is the first name?
which part is the last name?

what is BBBBB actually?
why there is a hyphen here?

Please help. Thank you.

Mary-Jane Smith.

Mary-Jane is her given name. Smith is her family name.
There is a hyphen because Mary is a given name in its own right and so is Jane.
