Dear teachers,
Can you tell me how to distinguish "worth" and "worthwhile" when the subject is "it" as in the following exercise:
I don't think it is _____ taking the trouble to explain the question to him.
A. worth B. worthwhile
The answer given is "B".
Thank you very much! |

Worthwhile (adjective) is the correct word to use beacuse it means, worth the time, money or effort spent (on something)
Worth (adjective) = equivalent in value; having income or property amounting to a specified sum.
Deserving to be treated or regarded in the way specified;
Noun: The value or merit of something or someone; an amount of something equivalent to a specified amount of money.
the amount that could be achieved in a specified time.
I must say that you will frequently hear "worth" used in everyday speech, but it is incorrect. |
