Businesses are witnessing a difficult time, which has in turn produced influence on consumer's desire to go green. However, shoppers are still laying stress on environmental concerns.
Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago, while more than a quarter say they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy.
Can you paraphrase the underlined sentence?
From the first half of the underlined sentence, does it mean that most people began to have environmental concern a year ago?

No. It means a year ago, they were concerned a certain amount about environmental considerations when they purchased something. Now, they are comparing how they feel a year later to how they felt a year ago. Two thirds of the customers say there is no change, and a quarter say they are better aware of the enivironmental effect on what they buy. |
