What's different between the sentence 1 and the sentence 2 ? |

These two sentences would probably generate the same response, however I feel that the second sentence is implying that the person went somewhere for his/her holiday. He was "on" a holiday, as you would be "on" a vacation or "on" a trip.
If it was just a week away from work, you would most likely refer to events during that week as happening "over the break" or "over the holiday" or "over vacation." _________________ Pat Mallon
