When the ball is knocked six inches off the center circle for that kick-off, i wouldn't register the world's worst disaster.
What does the sentence mean? It is abstracted from a footballer's autobiography.

Sure. The guy was a football player. A football game begins with a kickoff. (The ball is placed in the exact centre of the field, the teams line up opposite each other and the ball is kicked off its tee by one team towards the other).
That is the instant the game begins. From that moment the player under discussion was focused on nothing but that football game. Nothing could distract him - not even the world's worst disaster. |
