Dear teach:
Hello, I am a student from Taiwan. I have been confused about writting, when I want to write a sentence with a not specified but common
subject. Take the following sentence for example.
(1) A computer is common today.
(2) Computers is common today.
(3) The computers is common today.
Could you tell me which sentence above is correct in that condition? Thank you.
sincerely,
Felix |

Number 1 is grammatically correct, but probably wouldn't be my first choice.
(2) Computers are common today. (This one I would probably use.)
(3) The computers are common today. (Grammatically correct, but I don't know which computers you are talking about. If you want to be general, then (2) is correct.) |

Dear Lorikeet:
Thanks for your response. Now I can clearly differentiate the difference between the sentence (2) and (3), and it helps me a lot.
sincerely,
