Dear teacher:
I watch America drama- "friends". And I feel confused about their talking. When it comes to cop, someone says "well, there isn't sell doughnuts?", and other people say nothing but feel a little embarrass. It seems that "cop and doughnut" is a kind of something? A joke or? Besides if it is a joke, whats the relationship between cop and doughnut?
Thank you!

There's a standing joke in North America about cops and doughnuts (donuts).
Police Officers are allowed take short breaks during their on duty shifts. These breaks are of a short duration. This limits the places where they can eat, so they tend to stop at doughnut shops where they can get a decent coffee and a quick snack within the time permitted for their break. So, over time, lots of people have noticed this and made jokes about it.
e.g. A. "Help! I need a policeman."
B. "Try the donut shop."
