Hello,

I thought zero was supposed to be pronounced as "oh" when it was part of an address or a phone number, but recently I met an American who actually said "zero" when talking about his phone number. It reminded me of another time that I had heard the same thing, but at the time I thought it was simply a mistake. However, since I heard zero pronounced as "zero" for a second time I'm not too sure what's what anymore.

Is there a different usage depending on people, regions, countries, education or anything else? Is it simply a matter of personal preferences or is there a set rule about that?

Thank you in advance to whoever who can shed some light on this little problem of mine. Smile

Both are commonly used nowadays.

In the past, I taught my students to say "oh" in telephone numbers but these days, I accept both.

I hope this helps.
