DOCUMENTATION NEEDED FOR
BORDER CROSSING
LAND OR SEA TO THE US(INCLUDING FERRIES)

A valid passport or passport card, or a NEXUS card.
(A NEXUS card is a Tru sted Traveler Program that provides quick travel for pre-approved,low risk travelers through special lanes.)
A recent Washington State, New York or BC drivers license.
Note: Children 15 years of age and younger require only a birth certificate or copy.(Certified copies are not required but are advised.)

What does "BC" stand for?

It says that children require a birth certificate or copy.
It also says certified copies are not required.

What is the difference btween a birth certificate and a certified one. Aren't they the same thing?

Thanks

I assume BC means British Columbia, the part of Canada north of Washington state.

As far as the child's birth certificate goes, it says that you need to provide either the original certificate or a copy. I'm assuming a certified copy is an official duplicate that you get from a government office - it says certified copies aren't actually required so you can probably bring a normal copy instead (like a photocopy you made yourself).

This is all how I interpret the language, don't rely on this for legal information about border-crossing! If in doubt you should contact the offices that deal with this kind of thing.
