What is the difference between hallmark and characteristic?
Is "hallmark" distinguished characteristic whereas characteristic is general term to cover attributes?

Could you give me example sentences where hallmark and characteristic are used respectively?

A characteristic is a quality that is typical of a person, place or thing.


A hallmark is a mark stamped on items of gold, silver and platinum to certify their quality. From this comes its other usage: - a distinctive feature - especially of excellence.
