Question:
Could please help me to rewrite sentence below to sentence begins with no sooner" ... than ??
Write to me as soon as you can.
Answer:
You cannot use "no sooner...than" to rewrite the sentence above.
"As soon as" is used for referring to two actions, one happening after the other.
Here are 2 examples:
1. I called her as soon as I got home.
2. I will call her as soon as I get home.
"No sooner...than" is used for comparing two past events, one happening after the other.
Here are 2 examples:
1. No sooner had I finished the test than the bell rang.
2. No sooner had I deleted the junk e-mails than a few more came in.
"No sooner...than" sometimes carries a negative meaning. Sentence 1 means that I had only just finished the test when the bell rang; I almost didn't finish it on time.
I hope this helps. _________________ Mary W. Ng
