So, when I recently returned home, I got rid of my cell phone and traded in an old bike for a regular telephone that was connected to the wall and everything.
What does the underlined sentence mean?

| It means: I swapped (traded in) my old bicycle to get an old telephone. Sometimes, there can be an extra payment on top of the trade-in. In addition, the trade-in could be private, but is often through a (pawn) shop. |
