Dear teacher:

I have a question when I read the novel PS I love you,

I found the sentence

she had finally given up trying for a tan and accepted the fact that her skin was meant to be blue

what is the meaning of "meant to be blue"?

thanks for your help

Smile

I'm not familiar with the book, so I don't know why someone's skin would be blue Smile

But if something is "meant to be X," that means that something is just the way it is, and it can't really be changed, despite one's attempt to change it. We often use this phrase to indicate that the circumstance was a result of fate or destiny:

John and Marcia had planned on attending the same college, but they wound up being accepted at different schools. It just wasn't meant to be.

Hope this helps Smile
