|
|
Dear teachers:
Yesterday I watched "The Avengers" (Chinese subtitles) and found there's a dialogue I don't understand.
| Quote: |
Tony Stark: Give yourself some credit, please. Stark Tower is your baby. Give yourself... twelve percent of the credit.
(talking to Pepper Potts) |
In Chinese version, "twelve percent of the credit" is translated into "85 points".
It makes me confused. Does "twelve percent credit" have special meaning or just our translation problem... ?
best regards,
Vivian Lu |

No, there is no special meaning for "twelve percent credit." It's hard to say exactly what they mean, or how they get "85 points" out of it, without seeing more context for the dialogue.
The only thing I can think of is if there is an actual amount of money mentioned, and then 12% (in commission, for example) would equal 85 dollars, or whatever the money is.
Sorry that I can't be more helpful _________________ Helping ESL students since 2001!
