You're listening to the morning traffic report. Traffic is moving steadily this morning with only minor problems on Washington Avenue due to some roadwork. Those headed North may want to take Stewart Road instead.

I have seen this sentence. But I have had questions in my mind.

I could find the same phrases on the Internet, "Those headed North" or "Those heading North".

So I want to know the differences between "Those headed North" and "Those heading North".
First, what are the differences between "Those headed North" and "Those heading North".
Second, at what situations can I use each phase?

Frankly, I don't really see much difference between "I am headed north." and "I am heading north." so for me, they are pretty interchangeable. In your example, I could accept either one.
