| My publisher friend gave in to a sudden impulse. Could that possibly be Suzanne Malcolm youre talking to? he asked. Astonishingly, it was. My friend took down her telephone number and also asked her to call me. |
1. What does 'that' mean?
2. Can I replace 'Could that possibly be Suzanne Malcolm you're talking to?' with 'Could that who you're talking to possible be Suzanne Malcolm?'?
Thanks. |

It seems "that" means the person you are talking to.
Could the person who you're talking to possibly be Suzanne Malcolm? (or that, or whom, or to whom, depending on formality) |
