The following are my questions:

1. In this sentence, "I don't want him reading my personal letters." can I put it this way, "I don't want him to read my personal letters"?

Is there any difference between them?

2. In this sentence, "In general, the places they like to go most are beaches, riversides, and swimming pools." can I change it into "In general, the places they like to go to most are beaches, riversides, and swimming pools."?

Is this alternative right?

Thanks for your kind help.

I suppose someone could figure out some sort of slight difference in those examples, but to me they are essentially the same.
