Dear teachers,
Would you please tell me what is the function of the following prepositional phrases?
1) During the heat wave, dehydration became a threat for active citizens.
Is it part of the subject complement or not?
i.e., "a threat for active citizens" is one element only?
2) Can you write the clerk a cheque for the groceries.
adverbial of purpose or something else?
Thank you for your help.

1. I'd say yes.
2. Depends whether you think words are left out: e.g. "to pay for the groceries" or "in exchange for the groceries" or whether you think "for the groceries" is just describing the cheque. Personally, no idea!
Best wishes,
