Recently, I see a special words in cartoon, it is "tough crowd".

Please tell me what it mean and other synonyms.

A tough crowd means a tough or critical audience.

Usually it means an audience is not responsive to a performer's performance, like a comedian or a magician. They don't laugh or clap.
