I think "damages" are to be decided by the court, so "awarding it" below should be "being awarded."
It is said that the foreign company had copied key features of the Japanese manufacturer's smart phone, awarding it approximately 100 billion in damages. _________________ Hiromichi |

Both would be wrong. The sentence is ambiguous. Who is being awarded?
A better sentence would be:
It is said that the foreign company had copied key features of the Japanese manufacturer's smart phone, resulting in an award of approximately 100 billion in damages to the Japanese manufacturer.
