Photoshop has been indebted with the subject of a school well.
But I don't know Photoshop site well...Sorry!(Especially foreign Photoshop site...)
I think you learn Photoshop by Photoshop site than by many books. I learn Photoshop by easy sites ,too.

yah i have heard about this programme
&& i use it 2 edit pictures
alot of people told me that this programme
is the best programme in grafics
realy it is good
but need 2 know with it tools
moreover it need ideas 2 make smart
pictures
i will share u some of my works in this programme

It's very powerful indeed. but it is too much special . there are so many particular terms. so I prefer to use mspaint of windows . ^_^

It may be possible that you can download it, but you will have to buy to get all the functionality.
I used it to create these website and would have preferred it to be more intuitive. Still have a lot to learn.

I am photoshop lover. Here is my advice to you:
find as many resources providing lessons, tutorials, tips, etc. regarding Photoshop as possible and... GET TO ACTION!
The best way to acquire some new experience is to implement new knowledge.
Never put things off 
BTW, I've got CS. CS is the best version ever. Though 7.0 is supplied with better version of ImageReady. Last version of IR has some problems with rollovers and image maps.

...and one more thing
If you decide to build a website with Photoshop, don't.
"But Jen, why not?! ", you'd ask.
A: Photoshop is too heavy with html, interactive images (oh those image maps!) and java.
