Lucentshade, I notice atone in your messages that seems to indicate that you are ashamed of and unhappy in the USA. Why don't you move to Cuba where you can be proud and happy?

There is no anger about criticism of the conditions in the USA in your statement at all, is there? Wink
Oh, and it is completely impossible to make out the old antipathy of some people, living in the US to Cuba in your tone... Shocked
Things won't get better, if criticism is surpressed like that.

Believe it or not, there is a difference between being dissatisfied with a few things about a country and hating it completely. Yes, I do think there are some problems, both internally and in the foreign relations sphere, but I still don't hate the USA enough to want to leave. And yes, I admit to a bit of hypocrisy in my criticism of the capitalist system, since I've benefitted from it quite a bit.

However, this particular thread had nothing to do with anti-Americanism--it was about the mass media's often unfair portrayal of my region of the country.

I think that the Cubans should be proud that they have done well in many spheres of life - education, for instance. Fidel Castro may be fond of long speeches but he is a brave man who put his life on the line to try to improve the lives of the Cuban people. I think he has done so.
He could most likely have done a much better job if he had been able to trade freely with the world. But the enmity of the Superpower next door prevented that.
So I am a fan of Cuba and Fidel Castro andI think America made a mistake in its treatment of Cuba.
However most Americans, would not care to live in Cuba because it has a Communist dictatorship and thus an authoritarian government. Tell me a government anywhere that is not authoritarian.
It is a matter of degree, I guess.

Hello friends of every part of the world! I'm Virginia, I'm from Argentina. I live in a small, but very beautiful city called Santa Fe. Here there are very important rivers for the commercial activity, a beach where the people pass the time on the summer playing volley, fishing or doing acuatic ski, there are many bars and discos and the most important thing is that the people is very friendly. In general, all argentinians are very friendly.....
I study Politics Sciences and I like very much the International Relationships.
Well, thats all, this is me and the place where I live.
See you!
