Does North Korea have an intention to wipe away distrust?2004/05/25

Prime minister Koizumi commented that he would change the relation ship between Japan and Northkorea from hostility to friendship, from antagonism to cooperation, upon his revisit to North Korea.

No joking. It is North Korea which has been producing the hostility and antagonism between Japan and it. Whatever it has tried to advertise, that point is obvious,by just watching at its response to the abduction issue.

In order not to make "friendship""cooperation" into the string of flattering compliments, North korea has to wipe away other countries' distrust by its own efforts.

But in the summit Mr.Kim didn't agree to the extradition of the culprits of hijacking "Yodo" ,who were suspected to be concerned to the abduction. In North Korea, a culprit ,who abducted Mr.Hara, who was one of lost ten Japanese, has been treated as a hero.

Although it expressed the reinvestigation of the lost ten Japanese, It is doubtful whether if it really has intention to wipe away the distrust.

In a poll in Japan, more than 60 percent voters said that the information about the lost ten Japanese wouldn't become clear even by the reinvestigation and the abduction issue wouldn't direct to the complite solution upon the summit. 70 percent are pesimistic about the solution of the nuclear issue.

Japanese people's distrust against North Korea is deeply rooted. It is necessary to have a strong attitude at the time of negotiation with North Korea and to press it strongly to solve the problems between Japan and North Korea.

After the five abductees came to Japan, Pyongyang insisted that the five's visit to North Korea should be first for their familys' coming to Japan. If they agreed to it and went back to North Korea, they would have been forced to say that they wanted to stay in North Korea".

North Korea's attitude against Japan, also in the issue of the national security, is extremely hostile. It has targeted its 200 pieces of Nodon missile to Japan. This situation is same as saying "We are friends" while it stick a knife to the throat. Of course, no friendship without removal of all missiles.

The diplomatic relationship shouldn't be normalized without the comprehensive solution of the abduction, nuclear and missile issues. Whether it will open the door to the friendship and cooperation depends on if it response sincerely or not.
|
